Start your day

“Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

How to start a day? The way you start a day determines how the rest of the day will follow. Robin Sharma, the famous author and self-improvement coach, calls the beginning of the day, the first 60 minutes, THE HOLY HOUR. According to him, the first 60 minutes of the day one should devote to self-mastery and personal development. The more time you devote to your inner self the more it reflects in the outer world.

Tips to start a day:
        1. Waking up early: Most people dreads the idea of waking up early .But with practice one can make it a habit. 5 to 6 hours of sleep is enough for a normal human being.so why waste your time sleeping. Getting up early also add an extra couple of hours to your normal day which can be used to plan your day and do the most important task of the day.

      2. Fun Plan-Some like to call it To-do Lists .But I like calling it a fun Plan where I plan my day ahead. I keep it short and simple. Here I jot down my ideas, my 3 most important task of the day in work and habit I would like to work on for that day.

      3. Exercise-Exercise may seem to be boring and difficult for some. But to kick-start a day nothing works better than flexing your muscles. Exercising even for ten minutes a day keeps you fit and recharges your brain after a night sleep.

     4. Read-Reading inspirational books and blogs on self-improvement sets the tone for the day. But a word of caution-Don’t spend too much time on blogs .you might get addicted to it. Simply reading the self-improvement stuff may make you feel good but the most important thing to keep in mind is to work on  the instructions and wisdom you learnt.

   5. Meditate- Frankly speaking I have not yet mastered the art of meditation. But I meditate for ten minutes at least every morning. One can meditate on breathing or music .I follow a different technique where i visualize myself sitting in lotus posture in front of a lake. Visualising and observing myself meditating connects me to my inner self.

 6. Life Handbook- Some like to call it a journal. I regularly update my Life handbook with my experiences, my ideas, famous quotes and wisdom form great mind of all time, my long term and short term goals.

7. Visualize-Visualization to me is the most important and inspirational technique I have come across. Visualize yourself achieving the goals you have set for yourself. Visualize completing the task for the day. How will you feel after you complete the task and achieve your long cherished goals? Close your eyes and try to feel it. Believe me, it makes you feel good about yourself and keeps you motivated for the rest of the day.

8. Prioritize-In your Fun Plan prioritize your tasks and assign time limits to each of them. It may be the case when you will not be able to complete the task in the assigned time frame. But nevertheless, it’s worth trying in completing them in the assigned time.

9. MIT-Work on the Most Important Task of the day before working on any other goal. Prioritizing your goals and complete your first priority. On completion, it gives you confidence and the other tasks on the FP can be easily completed.

10. Play it cool- I always remind myself every morning what if it is the last morning of my life. What would I do? Personally, I would spend my time with nature and listen to the birds singing and feel the breeze touching my hair and body. Become philosophical once in a while.

Always remember life should be an experience and not an burden.
